The Penguins trade up to 39th overall to select Peyton Kettles. He’s a smart defenseman with strong defensive instincts, efficient puck-moving ability, and the tools to play in all situations.

Kettles is a right-shot blueliner who excels at shutting down chances with excellent stick work and awareness. He’s composed under pressure, makes clean outlet passes, and has the patience to start controlled breakouts from his own zone.

Kettles uses his body effectively and can kill plays with smart positioning. He’s trusted at both even strength and on special teams, and he’s starting to show flashes of offensive upside, including a willingness to shoot from the point.

His strengths lie in his hockey IQ, stick positioning, and calm, reliable decision-making. He could become a great reliable option if he becomes more confident in the offensive zone and adds explosiveness to his skating while keeping on developing his physical game.

At 6’1”, 200 pounds, Trethewey plays with a physical edge, clearing the crease, winning puck battles, and making life miserable for opposing forwards. He hits hard, but with purpose, using his strength strategically rather than relying solely on size.

He’s a smooth skater in all directions with solid four-way mobility. Even when under pressure or recovering from mistakes, Trethewey stays calm and efficient, using his skating to close gaps and transition the puck cleanly. The Penguins select Brady Peddle at 91st overall. He’s a big, left-shot defenseman with shutdown potential, steady mobility, and the defensive reliability to become a trusted penalty killer at the next level.

Hayes tallied 21 goals and 51 points in 65 games this season, playing over 17 minutes a night and contributing on both the power play and penalty kill. His shot is his calling card — quick, deceptive, and accurate — and he’s particularly dangerous when shooting off the rush or from tight angles.
